FAQs

How widely was the science research community engaged during the consultation programme?

The consultation programme sought and gained very wide engagement with the UK research community (including those UK scientists working at the ILL). Every opportunity was provided for the diverse community to contribute to the review.

Over 450 people registered their interest in the review through the consultation website. Registrants were drawn primarily from the UK academic community representing over 45 of UK's leading research universities. In addition, significant private sector interests were represented - 25 private sector companies registered ranging from high tech SMEs to major multi-nationals. The range of registrant's research interests extended from biology and biochemistry through Earth sciences and engineering to solid state physics, soft condensed matter and structural chemistry.

Over 150 people from the science community responded to the neutron review questionnaire. This was a very high response, resulting in 200 pages of feedback.

The new science event drew over 50 leading UK neutron scientists and others to consider the future of neutron science in the UK covering materials science, engineering, medicine, biology, geology, chemistry and physics.

The town meeting itself attracted 150 registrants from over 40 institutions in the public and private sectors. For those unable to attend the Town Meeting, videos of the key inputs were made available on the consultation website to seek additional feedback.
